Your Credit Pathby Jeannette Perez
CHAPTER 1 OF 7AT YOUR OWN PACE

A fresh start

Understand the journey before taking your first step.

In this chapter
  1. What DIY means
  2. Meet the three credit bureaus
  3. How to use this guide

You can learn this, one step at a time.

A confusing report, a hard season, or past decisions do not define your future. This guide helps you understand your reports and organize your next steps. DIY means you review the information, prepare your documents and send them yourself.

Why Jeannette created Your Credit Path

Maybe no one explained credit before you made your first financial decisions. Maybe a job loss, divorce or unexpected expense changed your plans. Your hopes for a home, a dependable car or a getaway still matter. Jeannette created this guide to help you begin without having to figure everything out at once.

Meet the three credit bureaus.

Equifax, Experian and TransUnion each keep their own credit report. Information may differ between them. The credit bureau and the company reporting an account are separate businesses.

Follow the chapters in order.

First get your reports. Then review your personal details before working through accounts. Each chapter explains one part of the journey and links to the tools for that step.

You do not need to write a dispute today. Your next step is simply to get your starting reports.

Reading a chapter does not record a mailing, change your account progress or unlock paid tools. Take each action when you are ready.
