What is credit repair?
How is your credit score calculated?
Your score is calculated from information in a credit report using a scoring model. FICO and VantageScore are two major companies that develop these models. Base FICO scores and VantageScore 3.0 and 4.0 range from 300 to 850. Some industry-specific FICO scores, such as certain auto and bankcard scores, range from 250 to 900.
Credit Karma provides VantageScore 3.0 scores based on Equifax and TransUnion reports. A score you see there may be higher or lower than a FICO score from another service or lender. That difference does not automatically mean either score is wrong: the scoring model, bureau information and calculation date can differ. Payment history, balances, account history and new credit activity can all matter. When tracking progress, compare the same model and bureau over time.
Your Credit Path strategy helps you look past a single number. Review the underlying accounts and balances, and keep making current payments on time while you work through report questions.
